Volume 5  -  January, 2000

It's been a long time since our last newsletter. That's because there has not been much to report since Michael returned to his native Poland two years ago. He has been writing songs while he waits for the US government to clarify his immigration status. He has done his part to expedite the matter and has been waiting for months to receive notice that his paperwork is in order.

Throughout this long period of inactivity the band has not actually broken up. Michael still plans to return to Wisconsin as soon as he can - And John, Josh and Steve are still committed to resuming the band with him when that happens. Matt may also remain with the group, but is not certain because of his current success with the Chris Aaron Band. John and Josh are also currently performing with the band Cherry Pie which is a cover band specializing in "Big Hair" 80s rock.

Volume 4  -  March, 1998

Welcome to the Beyond the Mirror Newsletter. It’s been quite a while since our last newsletter. The main reason for this is that the band has not been playing live in recent months. Although we still don’t have any live shows scheduled we wanted to update you on what is going on with the band and to let you know that we haven’t disappeared.

Beyond the Mirror guitarist Michael Sitarski is currently in Europe working on songs for the band’s next CD.

The “Big News”

There are two major developments to update you on. First, for those who might be wondering, our Fall gigging schedule was indeed cut short at the end of September when Michael had to return to his native Poland to take care of some personal business. He is still there and expects to stay until later this Spring. This has had obvious consequences on the band. Not only did we have to discontinue playing out but we also had to postpone our plans to record our next CD. Writing songs and other preparations for that recording however, have gone forward by band members on both sides of the Atlantic. The CD should be finished by the end of Summer.

The second item of big news is the launching of the official Beyond the Mirror website. Located at www.beyondthemirror.com, this website contains band information, high-quality photos, song lyrics, audio files and newsletters (including all back issues). We encourage all of you to send us e-mails to mail@beyondthemirror.com with comments, questions and suggestions. Let us know that you’re out there. You can also register with our e-mail list if you are so inclined. This will provide you with band news in a more timely fashion than our traditional mailing list has been able to.

Volume 3  -  August, 1997

My oh my, the business of rock ‘n’ roll is indeed a turbulent one. Our gigging schedule has been tossed around like a salad. Anyone interested in attending one of our shows - Please note the schedule changes since the last newsletter. Most notably, for reason far too complex to get into here, our planned dates for Janesville and Madison have basically switched places.

Here’s the latest rundown...

We will be playing at the Badger Bowl in Madison, Wisconsin on Friday, August 1, 1997. Madison is John and Josh’s hometown so they’re thrilled to be playing on their home turf. The Janesville shows originally planned for that weekend have been rescheduled in September (see below).

We will be making a return trip to Studio East in Green Bay on Saturday, August 16, 1997. Having just played there July 11, we’re glad to be asked back so soon. Titletown definitely knows how to rock.

The show originally planned for Shooter’s in Fond du Lac, Wisconsin on Saturday, August 23, 1997 has been canceled.

We will be rocking Champions in Janesville, Wisconsin for three nights on September 4, 5 and 6. John and Josh dropped in on Champions a couple of weeks ago to catch another band in action. What can we say? That place is still one of the best anywhere  to see a hot band. With a bigger and better stage than before and a regular crowd of rowdy hell-raisers and gorgeous women - we’re definitely looking forward to that weekend.

We’ll finally return to Beyond the Mirror’s home town when we play at Who’s on First in Milwaukee on Friday, September 12, 1997.

We will then revisit Four Stools Short in Wisconsin Rapids on Saturday, September 20, 1997 followed a week later by yet another show at Studio East in Green Bay on Saturday, September 27, 1997.

We still plan to add some more shows in September which, of course, will be included in the next newsletter. We will continue to try our best to keep you posted on changes in our schedule but as we’ve already seen this Summer “shit happens” and sometimes a show is moved or canceled with very little notice. It is always a good idea to call ahead on the day of a show to confirm the gig. This is true anywhere for any band.

On the musical front...

We’ve already been playing some newer original songs in our recent live shows that were written after the recording of our last release. In fact, we are in the process of writing quite a bit of material in preparation for recording our next CD. We’re planning to begin rolling tape on that in November. Until then, we’d love to get some feedback from you about the new songs at shows.

We are also open to suggestions about cover songs that perhaps we should learn. Some of the good ideas that we’ve heard so far are suggestion to learn some Dokken, Soundgarden, Triumph and Faith No More. What do you think?

Volume 2  -  July, 1997

Greetings and welcome to the second installment of Beyond the Mirror’s official newsletter. It’s been a great Summer so far. Although we haven’t played out very much, each show we’ve done has been a real treat for us. We’ve made a lot of new friends and our mailing list continues to grow by leaps and bounds.

For this reason we are very optimistic that those of you already familiar with the band  will help push us into a very successful Fall season when our gigging schedule gets much busier. But we’re not quite there yet. In fact, we will only be playing four shows between now and early August, but we will do our best to make each one really count. With your help we can spread the word about the band even further by the time September rolls around.

“Welcome to the show.” Always the ham, John poses proudly in front of the stage shortly before a show.

So here’s the rundown...

First of all - the show scheduled for July 5, 1997 in Fond du Lac has been canceled over technical concerns. We still hope to play there in August.

Our next show will be at Studio East in Green Bay July 11, 1997. Studio East has been a great place for live rock music for a long time. Many of us have played there in previous bands over the years and have never failed to have a great time. This will probably be the closest we get to Marinette or the Fox River Valley until Fall.

We will be playing a three-night stand at Champions in Janesville, Wisconsin July 31, August 1 and 2, 1997. Champions is also a long-standing hot spot for music, formerly called Back O’ the Yards, where some of us have played many times. Recently it’s gotten even better with renovations and a new sound system. Again, we suggest that many of you in the Madison and Rockford areas might find the short drive to Janesville to be well worth the trip.

Michael shows off his amazing chops during Beyond the Mirror’s set opening up for veteran rockers Great White in Marinette April 5.

On the musical front...

We continue to write and record new songs, working them into the live set along the way. We’ve also expanded our list of cover songs adding some more Van Halen, Alice in Chains, Rush and Queensryche. In addition, we have learned some hot tunes by Collective Soul, Live and Joe Satriani.

Remember, Beyond the Mirror has recorded a CD. It contains eleven original songs, all of which are a part of the live repertoire. Pick one up at one of our shows.

Fans of the Month

Finally, we’d like to acknowledge a pair of ladies whose new-found devotion to Beyond the Mirror has gone above and beyond the call of duty. Sisters Kay and Karen of Steven’s Point, Wisconsin, still mourning over the break-up of their beloved Badwolf, saw us for the first time ever in Mauston on May 31 where they picked up a copy of our CD. They came out to our Wisconsin Rapids show one week later and sang along with seemingly every line of all our original songs. Way to go!

Volume 1  -  May, 1997

Hello and welcome to the official newsletter for Beyond the Mirror. First of all, some updates: Many of you on the mailing list were supporters of Beyond the Mirror going back several years when it was three-piece instrumental group. Currently it is a five-piece band. Guitarist Michael Sitarski and drummer Steve MacDonald have been joined this past year by singer John Swenson formerly of Love Gun, bassist Matt Miller from Six-Pack Floozy and keyboardist/guitarist Josh Becker formerly of Jukebox Heroes.

Beyond the Mirror is (left to right) Matt Miller (bass), John Swenson (lead vocals), Josh Becker (keyboards and guitar), Michael Sitarski (guitar) and Steve MacDonald (drums).

The band’s repertoire now consists of a full array of rock music ranging from Van Halen, Rush and Queensryche to Living Colour, Alice in Chains and Dishwalla. Of course there’s plenty of original material also. The band has already recorded a full-length self-titled CD with the new line-up. You can pick one up at one of the band’s upcoming shows.

Speaking of shows, Beyond the Mirror has begun a light schedule of live dates that runs through the Summer while working on material for their second CD. Please come out and support the band at these very important early shows. If they’re not coming to your town right away, chances are they’ll be playing somewhere within an hour’s drive if you are inclined to make a short road trip.

They are looking forward to a very busy Fall doing shows in all of their strongest markets including Madison, Rockford, Iron Mountain and of course Milwaukee. Updates will appear in the next newsletter.
